Bodywork Healing Modalities - Fijian Massage
This deep, yet soothing, massage technique uses one foot that kneads all the muscles, relieving tension and pain. The therapist may sit or stand and the client may remain clothed while reclining on a floor mat. Fijian massage does not use oils or lotions. Fijian Massage does not include walking on the client's back as one foot remains standing on the floor. Fijian Massage is deeper and often more therapeutic than types of massage utilizing the hands.  (Source: http://www.fvpt.com/FijianMassage.html

There is currently no formal association of Fijian Massage practitioners.  Fijian Massage has been NCBTMB approved since 2001 and over 650 massage therapists have received certificates.

The basic foot strokes of Fijian Massage are traditional to the village on Kadavu where Simonis serves as healer.   Lolita Knight was taught by Simonis in 1997.  After her return to New Zealand, she began adapting the style to western expectations of a massage session.  The Simonis-Knight style of Fijian massage was developed into a slow, relaxing, pure barefoot style and brought to the U.S. by Lolita Knight, who has in turn taught it to several hundred therapists.

Lolita Knight maintains a listing of advanced certified therapists at http://www.fijianmassage.com/fijian-massage-advanced-therapists.html

Requirements for listing:

  • Satisfactory completion of 16 hour CE NCBTMB course
  • Payment of yearly listing fee
  • Evaluation forms sent by clients to Lolita Knight on a yearly basis
